Welcome to our First Annual Canyon Club Junior Angler Offshore Challenge. The purpose of the CCJAOC is to help young anglers experience the fun, excitement and sportsmanship of offshore fishing. The first of its kind for the Cape May area, this tournament encourages those of us that regularly fish the bountiful and productive waters right off our coast, an opportunity to not only ply offshore for an early season catch, but give our junior anglers a chance to be recognized for their catches and test their skills at hooking, fighting and landing (or releasing) prized fish.
This is an offshore tournament for boys and girls aged 17 and younger. The event will be divided into two age groups: 12 and under, and 13 to 17. The entry fee is $400.00 and covers up to (4) junior anglers per boat. Additional junior anglers will be $100.00 each. Multiple awards for Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Tuna & Dolphin will be handed out. There will also be a Best Offshore Photo Contest for those not grabbing a rod.
We plan on having fun dockside, but make no mistake; this is a serious tournament for Junior Anglers and will be recognized as a premier event, rivaling others such as the Viking/Ocean Showdown, the Yacht Club of Stone Harbor Invitational and the MidAtlantic. This will be a fish two out of three day tournament, Captains Choice, no weather committee. There are lay day forms, catch reports and comprehensive rules just like the other tournaments mentioned.

The Captains’ Meeting along with other evening events will be held poolside at the Canyon Club Resort Marina. Our Wednesday evening Captains Meeting will feature Junior Angler Sign-ups and light refreshments. Thursday night will be spend time with your family night, and Friday Night at dusk will be Movie Night. Saturday night, we will have a barbecue with hamburgers and hot dogs along with all the fixin’s followed by the awards presentations.
It’s on the 2015 Summer SJM/CCRM Fishing Tournament Schedule, plans are being finalized and interest has been very high at all of the winter boat shows. So, moms and dads, grandparents, uncles and friends, plan your vacation (for YOUR Junior Anglers) to spend a few quality days on the water, sharing, teaching, coaching and encouraging our future sportsmen and women the fun of offshore fishing.
